Out to Coye-la-Forêt

Monday morning we said goodbye to the Kashtis over breakfast. Ben took a Lime bike to the Gare de Lyon but ended up at Bercy first, which is not where the rental was. A friendly Alamo agent redirected Ben so off he went, signed the papers, picked up Kathy and the ton of luggage at the hotel, and off we went to Coye-la-Forêt.

Manou and Thierry’s place is what you hope for when you’re invited to stay with friends in the country: lunch when you arrive, the fridge knows what you eat, and the day shapes itself. Plus a very serviceable cat, Quercy, now eleven years old. We last saw here when she was about three, but she’s just as affectionate.

After lunch Kathy and Manou played flute and piano together — a little before-dinner concert just for us. Dinner that first night we forget the specifics of. I guess we were just that tired.

Tuesday was a walk in the woods with Manou — quiet trail, spring still tentative — and then Ben helped cook. Steak, with a sauce of shallots, thyme, and red wine. More wine accompanied appetizers and dinner.
